Paint Brief: Swatch Development

The swatches and colour charts available from the leading premium paint brands do not allow consumers to use these supposed utilities in such a way that they can create schemes, match colours with other interior considerations, or simply view an individual colour unaffected by those so closely surrounding them.

In ensuring that the ‘House of Theobald’ colour swatches avoid the rigidity of its sector competitors and provide a more considered, functional aid to the interior decoration process,  I propose an interior paint brush shaped swatch/series of colour guides, with each colour presented at the end of a single, individual ‘brush.’

Single swatches can be held together using a binding ring, allowing colours to be fanned/spread out and the colours explored individually, away from the affect of other colours. This would also provide consumers with the opportunity to devise colour schemes for their interior spaces, which can be saved as a visual reference, placed on a separate binding ring. Furthermore, by placing the colour at the end of the brush, and not within the bounds of a printed page, colours can be matched to other interior details such as fabrics, wallpapers and soft furnishings.

Colours groups (Reds & Pinks, Yellows, Greens, Aquas, Blues, Darks, Neutrals and Whites) may be presented on separate binding rings for more focused swatches, while colour names can feature on the ‘handles’ of the paint-brush swatches.
