BOND STREET: Luxury Brands Directory.
A brand directory of specifically Bond Street's luxury brands/stores providing a point of reference concerned with London's most exclusive and expensive shopping street. Featuring addresses and location information, enhanced via presence of visual recognition (photographic content) and brief historic context of the street and stores.
This publication's purpose would be to collectively provide location information within a point of delivery that appropriately reinforces the distinction and luxury intentions of the brands/stores that it features within it whilst also creating a commemorative piece in celebration of the street's heritage and status as London's most acclaimed luxury shopping street.
The target of the publication would be those familiar with the street who wish to join in celebrating it and all that it offers to the luxury retail industry in London. A publication for those with an interest in London and this luxury retail destination and location within the city, providing them with both photographic and typographic reference, with a high-end finish to the publication itself making for a desirable item in its own right to be owned by the clientele of these stores.
The publication would be available to purchase from luxury department stores such as Harrods and Liberty in London, as well as featured in suites of the city's most prestigious hotels.
Stock for the publication will need to be evidently high-quality in order to meet the luxury intentions of the book whilst enhancing, reinforcing and being supportive of/relevant to the content. Potential print finishes will also need to be considered when selecting stock as to ensure possibility for a high-end finish to be achieved via foiling, embossing/debossing, guilding etc.
The publications binding should appropriately refer to and be representative of the craftsmanship used by the stores and brands that call Bond Street home. Deciding between a hand-bound publication and mechanically bound publication direction will provide difficulty through aesthetics vs. concept relevance and will therefore be subject to critique and feedback.
When designing the publication, consideration must be given to both the method of print (digital/offset) and printer capabilities. Printing considerations of the publication should inform all major design decisions, including publication size/format, layout, colour, paper stock, paper size etc. The quality of the printed matter in the publication needs to be as high as possible in order to indefinitely communicate and connote the luxury-driven content.
Each step of the design process should be accompanied by commercial consideration.
- What would a printing establishment need in order to correctly print the publication? (bleeds, crop marks, paper size etc)
- How many print runs are required? How does the production cost compare with the publications MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price)?
- Will the selected binding method affect the print process? (page pagination)
- Does the publication feature any Pantone Spot colours?
- Are there any finishes to be applied? (foiling, embossing etc)
