OUGD504 - Design for Print - Critique

In today's critique I aim to receive feedback regarding the feature of tear out cards throughout the publication that feature the directory details of each of the Bond Street stores.

Although the publication is image/photographically focused - the resolution will feature the store names, addresses and telephone numbers, naturally within a directory. My desire for the book is to provide the target with extended usage and experience through tear-out cards that feature the directory details repeated from the pages themselves that supply a more convenient point of delivery of information once they book has been viewed. This addition would mean a greater level of interactivity could be achieved. Furthermore, it would challenge the normal circumstance of books becoming redundant once they have been read - put aside or on a shelf where it would stay indefinitely.

Whilst this feature would undoubtedly enhance the publication and its suitability for purpose and target, identification of a functioning system allowing the cards to feature without affecting the page aesthetic once removed is proving challenging.

Critique Question

How can I integrate a tear-out system of informational cards without causing a negative affect on the page(s) aesthetic quality?

Feedback

  • A magnetic spine that allows for pages to be taken out.
  • Create cards separately that are simply stuck onto the pages with a low-strength means of adhesion.
  • Make a card holder that comes with the book, full of the cards.
  • Feature the cards at the back of the book on a perforated grid that allows cards to be torn out without affecting each page.
  • Feature half-page inserts or overlays that can be taken out.
Reflection

Following this critique I have been provided with multiple solutions to the method of integration of additional directory information cards. The most functional being to feature the cards at the back of the book on a perforated grid that allows cards to be torn out without affecting each page. This will create a structured, clean and functional aesthetic/feature to the publication maintaining the high-end design formatting.
