Do you believe the Way finding system for Leeds City centre is effective? Why?
- Each sector has its own identity through colour, but they still look cohesive and consistent.
- Even though you can see influence from road signage, this system looks completely different. Its a system that works, but also looks creative.
- Yes, it looks considered and bold. It would be difficult to overlook.
- I think they work because they are simple. Its not an elaborate system but if effectively does what its meant to.
- Every element looks thought through, from the shape of the signs to the symbols and colours and type. It works well.
Do the colours resonate with the sectors well? Do you feel the combinations are appropriate?
- I would say yes. I can see the connection with green and money, yellow and happiness and creativity with orange.
- Yes. They also allow for further connection to be made by people, like if they can't remember the name of the sector they might remember the colour and so still know what to look for.
- Yes. All relevant to the sectors.
- I like that they aren't really intense, they're more subtle but with the black seem brighter.
- I think the orange and red are quite similar but they're appropriate to the areas.
How does the signage read?
- It's very clear, consistent and well ordered.
- Because of the black type on the light backgrounds, the words are really definite. You could see them from quite far away when at scale I would think.
- Yes very clear, the typography is easy to read.
- The contrast is there, but it doesn't overwhelm the design. Its nice to take in without dominating space around it.
- The typeface was a good choice, its really legible and clear and easy to take in.
Leeds-specific symbols feature on the signage. Does this add to the system? How?
- It makes the signage more personal to the city and therefore more effective, because the symbols represent things significant in Leeds.
- It makes it easier for people to get to know the city. I didn't know the building with the owls outside was the civic hall but now I do because I recognised the symbol.
- The things they represent are all quite iconic in Leeds, it shows people the city's best parts.
- I think the symbols are what makes the system effective. They're so simple but really effective.
- The shapes and structures aren't typical of symbols. They feel very personal and informed by the city itself.
Please describe the system using only three words.
- Colourful, bold and creative.
- Consistent, considered, bright.
- Informed, informative and clear.
- Different, vibrant and co-ordinated.
- Contrasting, personal and legible.
